Who We are

The Adult and Community Education or ACE Program is a part of Royce Learning Center. Royce is a non-profit organization serving Chatham County and the surrounding area. Established in 1970, Royce's mission is to provide educational services to people with learning disabilities and literacy needs.
The ACE program has been providing literacy tutoring to adult learners for over 25 years. This program is supported by the generousity of the community and recieves funding from private donors as well as The United Way of the Coastal Empire. Each year, we help over 180 adult learners with to improve their literacy skills.
Why Support Adult Literacy?

1.4 million adult Georgians are at literacy levels below eighth grade and most are in the workforce.
Approximately 25% of people in Savannah read at or below the 8th grade level.
According to the US Department of Labor, on average, workers aged 18 and over with a bachelor’s degree today earn an average of $51,206 a year, while those with a high school diploma earn $27,915 and those without a high school diploma average $18,734.
75% of unemployed adults have reading or writing difficulties.
75% of all food stamp recipients perform in the two lowest levels of literacy.
24% of patients with low literacy skills cannot read a prescription label.
50% of adults without a high school diploma are learning disabled.
Children's literacy levels are strongly linked to the educational levels of their parents, especially the mother.
Parents who improve their education, obtaining a GED or high school diploma, have children who show improvement in school and are more likely to stay in school.
